Phillips Academy – our partner from the USA

“EnjoyRussian” Language School has awesome partners! One of them is Phillips Academy (Andover, USA). It is one of the oldest high schools in America (established in 1778). The school has its own emblem which was created by Paul Revere as well as school’s motto «Non sibi» (Not for self).
It is hard to get accepted to the school. If you’ve done it, you have a chance to become a student of one of the world top universities – Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge. About 30% of the school alumni enter these universities.
The main idea of the educational process is to help young people grow intellectually, artistically, athletically and morally. The teachers try to bring out the best in the students. One of the school courses is Russian as a foreign language. And that was a starting point for our cooperation.
We have been partners since 2010. Each summer a group of 5-13 students comes to “EnjoyRussian” with their Russian language teacher Victor Svec. Usually students spend 3 weeks in Petrozavodsk living in Russian host families and studying Russian. The main idea is to improve Russian speaking skills and get to know Russian way of life. Petrozavodsk is the best place in Russia to learn the language! There are few people speaking English in the city. So you have to practise the Russian language.
There is a cultural program for American students. They visit Open-Air Kizhi Museum, The Musical Theatre of the Republic of Karelia and some other entertaining places in Petrozavodsk. Each summer they can join teens from International Summer Language Camp and spend time with Russian teens.
This year students from Phillips Academy (http://enjoyrussian.com/american-students-become-russian/ ) have implemented their own Russian language projects (http://enjoyrussian.com/summer-time/). They are really interesting and creative.
