This week our dear students continue working with their Russian! They  are making good progress!
As for their free time it is also very efficient!  Guys have visited Opera, Organ Concert,  now they are getting ready for the volunteering project – meeting in a café  with Russians who are interested in learning  foreign languages!  Such meetings are usually very interesting and useful for both sides. It is a usual practice that our foreign guests participate in the volunteer activities for Russian children and adolescents, aimed to explore the European countries, languages, cross-cultural differences in the continuous social project "Language Club."  Moreover participation in volunteer projects it is a successful way to learn Russian.

Tomorrow   Russians celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day. The holiday marks the date in 1918 during the Russian Civil War when the first mass draft into the Red Army occurred in Petrograd and Moscow. It was originally known as Red Army Day.  In 1949, it was renamed Soviet Army and Navy Day. Following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, the holiday was given its current name.
Officially, as the name suggests, the holiday  is celebrated by people who are serving or were serving the Russian Armed Forces (both men and women), but unofficially, nationally it has also more recently come to include the celebration of men as a whole, and to act as a counterpart of International Women's Day on March 8
Russian Language School Enjoy Russian congratulate all men in Russia and all over the world and warmly invite all to join us  in Spring to celebrate Easter all together!!!

Our latest news!!!

Today was a sad day for some of our students – they finished their education in our language school “Enjoy Russian”. They enjoyed their last class today and received certificates, which show that they have completed course of the Russian language. Ex-students will leave for home late at night.

While they were living in Petrozavodsk they visited museums of Petrozavodsk, spent some time in night clubs and had some entertainment playing bowling.
This is a little pity that they are leaving Petrozavodsk today, because an interesting event will happen tomorrow in our town – International winter festival Hyperborea 2013. The program of festival is very rich and includes the contest of ice sculptures built by young sculptors from different countries, tournament of fishermen, etc. The festival is conducted every year and always attracts a lot of citizens.

On February 8, 2011, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued a decree that Russia would observe year-round DST. Under the decree, all clocks in Russia were advanced one hour on 27 March 2011 as usual, but are not to change back the following October, effectively making Moscow Time UTC+4 permanently.

Nowadays the Russian Government decided to return the Russians hour of sleep, moving the clock back  for one hour. Government has taken the positive decision, and the  initiative will be introduced in the State Duma soon. As the official source in the Kremlin said the Resolution was  adopted. Until the end of the year Russia will fix a permanent winter time, and there won’t be a transition to the summer time. The decision was announced by the official source of the Government. It was also mentioned that the Government has been working on the issues for a long time. Discussion relates to whether to return the old system, when the hands were transferred twice a year, or once transferred into winter. Won, apparently, the latest version - the official said.

“Help yourself, please!” or Where to have lunch?!

When students come to our Russian Language School, they usually have intensive time-table! And of course a hearty lunch must be!
In this article we decided to help our students to find out where to go for a lunch!
Since Russian Language School is situated in the building of Pedagogical College, we have a canteen! This is the best place for public catering!!! But sometimes it happens that the canteen is closed! For example when the students are on holidays! That’s why we offer our students to have lunch in different cafes, restaurants, pancake-cafes.

The nearest one is called “Deja-vue”. This is a great little cafe directly opposite to the Severnaya Hotel. The main attraction is the fact that you can get a REAL coffee J . With milk and sugar! It is so tasty!
The menu offers a huge number of different meals from soups and salads to meat and fish! The Staff are pleasant and very understanding .

The next restaurant is situated not far from Lenin Avenue! It is called “Karelskaja Gornitsa” ("Karelian chamber"). This is the only place on the Earth where you can try traditional Karelian dishes in unique interior, which imitates the traditional hut of Karelian peasant.  It is worth just opening the menu so that to feel a conquering atmosphere of traditional eating ritual. Bear's meat, elk's meat, venison, tender fish, berries, mushrooms . All of the foodstuff is being lain in a stock at our local hunters, fishermen and reliable farmers. Modern equipment helps to recreate an oven effect so that to bring a maximum reachable level of basis taste and wholesomeness. The portions are really big - so that leaving the restaurant you feel like you've just visited your grandmom, who only dream was to feed you for the rest of your life! But be ready to pay for the delicacy!

“Kivach” is located right in the center of Petrozavodsk, on the other side of the State University, it is one of the favorite places of visiting by youth and tourists. It offers good food, good serving and nice music. The atmosphere is very comfortable.

Kaffe Haus was opened not very long ago and located right in the center near Severnaya Hotel. It is very cozy inside. Different tasty desserts, ice-cream, cocktails are for you here.

If you want to have a snack and to get acquainted with a typical Russian dish ''Bliny'' (Pancakes), it is the best place to drop in! ''Chainaja lozhka'' (''Tea spoon") is located in the center of the town, at the Lenin avenue, not far away from the University. It is the favorite meeting point of students and other people. Here you can drink a cup of tea and choose among the different arts of Bliny: with honey, jam, chicken, champignons and others...Fast service and nice stuff! All Blinys are worth of tasting! Dont stop, try more! You will like it for sure:-)

Parizhanka  The most popular is “La Parisienne” («Парижанка»). Its cafes spread in all over Petrozavodsk. The one is situated not from our school! The menu offers you European and Eastern cuisine. The atmosphere is very warm and romantic. This place is very popular among students. But there is one thing to know about this café – the stuff is rather slowly! You’ll have to wait about 20min just for the cup of coffee!

So dear friends, do not starve!!! You need forces to study well :)

The activity was absolutely safe, the instructor gave guys all the information needed and the insurance outfit. So the result of such a thing is just  high spirits that everyone had!!!

During the whole week our students from UK were talking about Marty Ray’s Day! Have you ever heard about this holiday?!  It turns out that this holiday was “invent” in Russia! Can you imagine!!! J It usually celebrated two times a year, on the last Thursday of June and in winter, on the last Thursday of January! These days  all the fans of Marty Ray gather together, sing the Marty Rays hymn.  So, if you want to join us next time, apply for the summer course! And believe –once you celebrate it, you won’t forget this day!!!

Today Helen and Jamie got their certificates! They had upgraded  their level of Russian Language to the Basic! Now guys we are waiting for you in Summer 2013 ;)In the evening they are having farewell café!

Students are leaving, students are coming! On Monday 8 students will join our Russian Language course!  They are from Switzerland, Austria, Holland!!! Dear friends, Welcome!!!

We warmly invite you to join our Russian Language Course too in order to fulfill your life with new knowledge, with new friends,  with new impressions!!!
