Reading is an essential part of a man’s life. Fiction,
technical literature, popular science, magazines – they help you fulfill
yourself, entertain yourself and, well, live! Every book is a breath-taking
story (or a collection of stories), every manual is another step to perfection,
every magazine is a store of relevant information of whatever kind you would
want to know – from local to global-scale events, for example. And, of course,
reading in Russian is a great contribution to your knowledge of the Russian
language. In addition to it, you can acquire a book as a souvenir. What a
pleasure is to shuffle through the pages of Dostoevsky or Pushkin from time to time!
In the city of
Petrozavodsk books, manuals and magazines can be found in a number of bookstores.
The largest are:
·
Meretskov St., 11 – “Tetris”. The widest range of
literature – modern and classic, adult and infantile, and even comic strips are
found on the fourth floor of this great shopping mall.
·
Oktyabrsky Avenue, 13 – “Kalevala”. Named after
Karelian original folk epic poem, this is a great literature store.
·
Shotman St., 3 – “Knigolub”. It isn’t a very large
store; actually it is the smallest of those listed here. However, right next to
this store there is another one where you can acquire second hand books at low
price. If you’re planning to buy a present – get a new book. If you’re buying
for yourself you better go to this store.
·
Antikainen St., 34 – “Bukvoed”. This book store is the
best Petrozavodsk can offer. It is as large as “Tetris” book store. What makes
it the best book store is office supplies department where one can acquire
pens, pencils, notebooks etc.
These four are
the most notable book stores in Petrozavodsk. If you’re interested in books in
Russian language, visit one nearest to your location.
In conclusion,
several words about books that are most popular among readers. In “Tetris” and
“Bukvoed” they are marked as “Лидеры продаж” (Lidery
prodazh - bestsellers). It’s no use naming every author and book because they
change. It would be an interesting experience to buy some book in Russian that you’ve
already read in English. Plenty of new Russian words and expressions,
interesting reflections, suspenseful stories – can be found inside Russian
books which in their turn can be found in the book stores. Spare some time to
visit one of them – you won’t be disappointed.
