Try Tasty Russian Food!

The Russians living in a country with cold winter and not so long summer believe that food can help to survive in those conditions. The right food keeps you warm and active. That's why Russian people have chosen food that gives them a lot of energy: meat, bread, potatoes, eggs, butter and milk.
What are the most popular dishes in Russia? Soups, salads, main courses such as chops (kotlety), pelmeni, potato with mushrooms, pancakes (bliny). You can easily find them on every restaurant menu.
Salads
The Russians like salads very much. Salads take a special place on a holiday table – there’s no holiday without salads: meat salad “Olivye”, fish salad “Mimoza”, beetroot salad “Vinegret” and many more!
The most famous salad is a salad called “Olivye”. Sometimes foreign people call it for Russian salad. Though the name “Olivye” has a French origin. But the salad doesn’t have any relation to the French cuisine. It's made of potatoes, green peas, salt cucumber, meat, eggs covered with a thick layer of mayonnaise. We recommend you to try this tasty salad!
Soups
The traditional Russian dinner consists of several courses. From the Soviet times people are used to call them the first course, the second course and the third course. The second course includes meat and garnish. A drink in Russia is called the third course. But the first and main course is soup.
There are many soups with unusual names like schi, borsch, rassolnik, botvinia, ukha, okroshka, solianka. The most popular soup is schi made from cabbage, meat, carrot, potatoes, tomatoes and onion. We usually eat soups with some sour-cream. Maybe many people haven’t heard about schi before, but everybody knows borshch. In fact borshch is schi with beet root. That’s the main difference between these soups. And each family prepares borsch its own way. There are hundreds of borsch recipes for sure!
Main courses
There is a big choice of meat courses in Russian cusine. Golubci (minced meat covered with a cabbage leaf) and pelmeni (the small balls of minced meat covered with the pastry) are among them. They are popular in many countries abroad but you should try them in Russia because here they are the best.
The traditional Russian supper includes kotlety (chops) with rice, fried fish or potatoes with mushrooms.
And we can’t forget about bliny. These tasty pancakes are served with different fillings: from berry jam and cheese to expensive caviar. Making bliny is an important part of Maslenitsa-holiday celebrating.

So, when you come to Russia don’t be afraid to taste new things and you’ll be fascinated by amazing Russian cuisine!
