"Сегодня погода холодно"  is one of the rudest mistakes a Russian language learner can make. And yet almost everyone makes it. What is it about Russian adjectives and adverbs that makes it so hard to understand? Well, in many languages adverbs and adjectives have different endings too, even in English sometimes: quick vs. quickly, beautiful vs. beautifully. Everyone knows that adverbs are used to modify verbs, and adjectives - to modify nouns. But Russian adjectives also have to agree with the nouns they modify in gender, number and case.  So, when you decline a Russian noun, you must decline the adjective that goes with it:

Это русская девушка. (Nominative case)
Это книга русской девушки. (Genitive case)
Я звоню русской девушке. (Dative case)
Я люблю русскую девушку. (Accusative case)
Я гуляю с русской девушкой. (Instrumental case)
Я думаю о русской девушке. (Prepositional case)

Look at the rule about ХОЛОДНО VS. ХОЛОДНЫЙ (-АЯ, -ОЕ, -ЫЕ) and try to make your sentences with the adverb and the adjective. Leave them in a comment to this post and our educational director will check it.
