🇷🇺 What not to say in Russian:
As with all languages beware of false friends, ie. words that sound similar but have a different meaning.
Don't try to buy a магазин (magazine), in Russian - you end up with a shop. Better ask for a журнал (zhurnal) 📖.
Don't be surprised if someone invites you into his кабинет (cabinet). You're not meant to sit in his cupboard or join his cabinet, you're simply invited into his office 💺.
And watch out for which syllable of a word is stressed as it has an impact on the meaning. Я плачу́ (ja plachU), means «I'm paying» 👛 while я плáчу (ja plAchu), means «I'm crying» 😭 .

In Petrozavodsk you may easily take a walk through a forest to relax 🌿, listen to the birds 🐣, or have a picnic, and you don’t even have to leave the city!

Last weekend EnjoyRussian team spent splendid time together. We had a picnic in the Kurgan spot where you can get on foot or by bus from any part of Petrozavodsk. Here are some pictures from the holiday 😊

In March it’s still winter in Karelia ⛄ although it’s sunny ☀from the early morning ! In the Kurgan area you may rent ski and snowboard equipment, try snow tubing and sledding or just have a pleasant walk and make beautiful pictures.

Welcome in March!

Do you know that except the Women's day 👠(March 8th) in Russia people also celebrate the Men's day 👞on February 23rd?
The official name of the holiday is Defender of the Fatherland Day🇷🇺. This holiday has a military history and was first celebrated around WWI. But nowadays it's mostly just a holiday of all men. On this day women give presents 🎁to their husbands, fathers, boyfriends, male colleagues. They know very well that their women's holiday is coming very soon, and the quality of the gifts they will get on that day very much depends on what kind of gift they give to their men on February 23rd😜.

Here are some important phrases related to the holiday✍🏻:
День защитника отечества - Defender of the Fatherland Day
С Днём защитника отечества - Happy Defender of the Fatherland Day!
Поздравляю с 23 (двадцать третьим) февраля! - Congratulations with February 23rd!

Hello everyone! It's time to check your Russian grammar! Try to close your eyes and conjugate verbs of motion ИДТИ, ХОДИТЬ, ЕХАТЬ, ЕЗДИТЬ. Could you remember all the forms? Did you change the stress in ХОДИТЬ forms: ходИть, хожУ, BUT хОдишь, хОдит, хОдим, хОдите, хОдят. Didn't you confuse the stress of "идУ" and "Еду", "идЁм" and "Едем"?

If it was difficult and Russian grammar confuses you, come to our courses in Petrozavodsk and Russian grammar will become an easy thing for you!

“On behalf of EnjoyRussian language school I cordially invite you to our Russian language program in Petrozavodsk. Petrozavodsk is a charming green Russian city located on the shore of the beautiful Onego lake not far from St. Petersburg. I co-founded the school with my partners in 2003 as a part of the non-governmental and not-profit educational center offering volunteer programs, foreign language courses and study abroad programs for Russian people. I am proud of the high reputation we have gained as the excellent language center, which has largely been through the hard work and dedication of our staff. Our school welcomes people of different ages from all over the world since 2004. More than 1000 students enjoyed our full Russian language immersion program including effective Russian language courses with professional Russian teachers, homestay with hospitable Russian families and cultural activities with our Russian volunteers. Our Russian language school is the perfect choice for those who are coming to Russia for the first time and looking for the warm welcome, who want to immerse into authentic Russian atmosphere and to get the fast and guaranteed progress in Russian, who prefer studying in the small groups, who evaluate the individual approach and are looking for the special attention to their needs. We were so surprised😳 to know from our foreign students that people all over the world know word BABUSHKA (бабушка)👵 so well, because they mistakenly think that babushka is a traditional Russian wooden doll, which we are sure you all have seen👀 many times. It's a very common souvenir that people bring home from Russia🇷🇺. But the right name for it is MATRYOSHKA (матрёшка) and definitely not⛔ babushka!

What is BABUSHKA, after all? ⚠Of course it's granny, grandmother, the mother of person's father or mother. And it's a very significant person in people's lives, so let's tell a little bit more about these amazing Russian women.

Babushkas represent a totally independent part of society in Russia - they know everything and are good at giving a piece of advice whether you’ve asked for it or not. There are some interesting stereotypes about Russian babushkas that prove true more often than not:
1. Babushkas are perfect at cooking🍗🍪🍰🍳.
2. They take care of their grandchildren 🐥🐥while their parents are at work and they really enjoy it.
3. They have a dacha where they grow vegetables🍅🍆, make kompots and prepare jams 🍒🍓to be eaten on long winter evenings.
4. Their biggest concern is to feed everyone who gets to their house to the bursting point.
5. Babushkas always know everything about their neighbours. They like to seat on a bench outside and watch other people.

Are babushkas in Russia different from ones in your country? 👂Have you ever had an interesting meeting with a Russian babushka you want to share? We can't wait to hear your story!✍🏻
