Is learning Russian via Skype effective?

Yes, if your course fulfills certain requirements:

1) Regularity. We recommend to take at least 2 lessons a week to start to speak Russian in a short period of time. Some of our students take online lessons every day. 1 lesson lasts 45 minutes – it’s not so much to postpone your progress in Russian if you’re really interested in achieving results.

2) Professional course with a native speaker according to an individual plan. The teacher should take into account your goals, learning speed and interests to keep you motivated though the whole course and aware of the progress you make. You will monitor your own results with an experienced teacher.

3) Can-do attitude. It’s an open secret that hard work is the price of success. It’s not the teacher who makes your knowledge, but you. Your teacher is a guide who helps you through the exciting journey on your way to fluency in the Russian language, and of course you should be self-organized and ready to do homework, read books etc. But when your online lessons are focused on your individual progress with the help of creative teaching methods, you study willingly and it’s much more like a hobby than a routine.

How to learn Russian slang fast? Ask Giulia from Italy!

As you probably know every year hundreds choose Russia to spend a semester during the gap year. But Giulia from Rome came to Petrozavodsk by EVS program. Here in Karelia she attends Russian classes (Giulia's Russian level is literally close to a native speaker already!) and works as a volunteer at the International language Camp for children. She successfully combines learning Russian in Petrozavodsk and discovering new places all over Karelia (the Republic in the Russian North-West). A few days ago Eleanor and a group of students came to the most outstanding sight - Kizhi museum which is located in 50-min water-ride from Petrozavodsk. 

“I’m eternally grateful to the school for organizing the whole thing for me, which meant that I got a tour of the island with a group of Russians, led by the very lovely Evgeniya.” What are the secrets of traditional nineteenth-century constructions?
