Non-stop Russian language practice at spring Business Camp in Petrozavodsk

Would you agree that language learning becomes even more exciting when it’s connected with some interesting activities? For instance, students of Enjoy Russian school are always free to choose “Russian and Volunteer” program and come to Petrozavodsk to find friends (or even fans) among Russian teenagers and children. Two weeks ago we had here a project “My first Startup”. Kids had to choose the recipe and open the restaurant by themselves.  We must admit the participants were carried away not only by the tasks, they were also very happy to see such amazing guests as our student and volunteer Jagger!

 I am studying Russian at Enjoy Russian, and was lucky enough to be offered the chance to take part in the Initiative centre’s week-long camp. The theme was world cuisine and enterprise. The children and teenagers taking part had some really creative ideas, I was impressed by their enthusiasm. We even got to see behind the scenes at dodo pizza!

The highlight for me was the final day, when everyone gathered to present their projects in Dodo pizza. Each group prepared some dishes, made promotional posters and some even dressed up (the Chinese dress and Italian moustaches were fab!). Each group performed a promotional speech, explaining their inspiration and the features of their chosen cuisines. I especially liked the Chinese restaurant group’s acting!

I was glad to see that some students were extremely keen to practice English as well as becoming budding chefs and entrepreneurs. My favourite English slogan was Little Italy’s “ugly but tasty”, which perfectly described the tiramisu and their boosted sales!

It was a pleasure to take part, well done to everyone who contributed!

Spend 4-12 weeks in Petrozavodsk, Russia with EnjoyRussian language School:

There are many volunteers of Russian Language School in Petrozavodsk of all ages.

But all of them have different background, family, education, hobbies.

Let us present you the most active volunteers of June – Mane and Lilit Manutsyan. They are sisters but very bright and individual.

For example, Mane likes German language while Lilit adores French language.  Both of them speak English language and Mane practises Italian as well. But at home they speak Armenian language because their parents are from Armenia.

Mane  likes cinema, journalism, active life-style and travelling while Lilit likes basketball, France, hats and music.

Both of them are students of Petrozavodsk State University, future philologists.

During the June, Mane and Lilit became friends for more than 5 students. They helped them to orient in the city, use their guidebooks, activate sim-card, go to bank and so on. AlsoMane became an interpreter in lecture about Karelia for 10 students.

As a present for their active participation in Russian Language School life, Mane and Lilit gained free tickets in bowling club.

This June a big group of Swiss students came to study in the Russian language school “Enjoy Russian”. Though I’ve already participated in several similar camps, it was my first experience as a volunteer of the “Initiative Centre”. Anyway it has absolutely left to my expectations.

All the students as well as the other volunteers were very friendly and easy-going. It turned out that we have much in common with the guys, so we simply became friends. As a volunteer I tried to help my new friends to learn Russian language and culture: we’ve watched funny Russian cartoons, went to the cinema, attended different museums, had long walks around the city, went to the picnic to the lake, where we played folk Russian games, swam or just lay in the sun, in other words we had an awesome time together. Moreover we organized a “Food Party”, which, in my opinion, turned out to be great. We represented each other different tasty things, we’d cooked ourselves, spoke a lot and even sang Russian karaoke!

I would like to say “thanks” to the guys, because they not only learned Russian here, but also helped me with my German, which was very kind of them! So I hope that the guys liked the time spent together here in Petrozavodsk as much as I did!

We have many interesting programs for our students in Petrozavodsk. For Example Rahel is a volunteer in the Centre "Senzala Capoeira Karelia". She works as an assistant of the main capoeira master Anastasia and helps children during their trainings. Children like Rahel very much and we have only good reviews about this volunteer work!

National Food Party
We had the first National Food Party in 2016 yesterday!:) We could taste Chinese sweets, Australian sandwiches, Swiss apple cake and chocolate, Russian salad Olivje and the vinaigrette, Russian cakes with rice and Karelian cakes called "kalitka". Also our students made presentations about their countries and gave cute gifts and beautiful postcards to Russian volunteers! Thank you all for a such cozy and friendly atmosphere!
