THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE – YOUR WAY TO THE STARS

Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin was the first human to travel into space. Alexey Leonov was the first human to perform a spacewalk (there is a great movie about that by the way – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOJ_ijPbXpU). Roscosmos is one of the leading international establishments that conduct space science programs. So, it’s no wonder that people, who want to become astronauts or spacecraft engineers and etc. want to learn Russian and hope that the Russian language will come in handy in their future career.

This July we had two students at once, who want to learn Russian because of the reason mentioned above: Jefferson Huera from The University of Manchester and Gabriel Wentworth from The University of Warwick.

That’s what Jefferson says: “Russian language has always been important in the aerospace industry. The former Soviet space programme, nowadays called Roscosmos has had many important contributions in the aerospace research. Along with Nasa they are the most important space agencies. By learning Russian, it will be possible for me to work in these space agencies. Just as an example, astronauts and cosmonauts are required to have knowledge of the Russian language. I know that it is really hard to get to those positions but at least I will try.”
That’s an amazing dream and a great motivation to study the Russian language! I hope Jefferson and Gabriel will achive their goals and the “Enjoy Russian” language school will be proud in the future of having had such famous people among its students;)

Why so much dill?

Do you remember Ellie from Cambridge? 

In December 2016 she finished 12-week Russian language course  in our school in Petrozavodsk. She has become a good friend to “EnjoyRussian” and the Language Center. Ellie was participating in the English language lessons for children, in the Language café for Russians and visited English classes for adults. Children gave their heart to Ellie!  The ywere singing songs and dancing etc. And we were really glad to communicate to her! 

Russian host family Ellie was living in became a real family for her! Ellie was lucky to experience Russian life, meet new people and practiced Russian speaking and listening skills! 

For the first time Ellie came in our school in summer 2015 and spent here 2 weeks learning Russia. And she is going to come to Petrozavodsk again in summer 2017 to be a volunteer in the International Language Summer Camp for Children and Teenagers! 

We are looking forward to seeing you again, Ellie!

A word of advice! 

Pronunciation is a very important skill!  You can use words correctly, but if your pronouncing is not good, people won't understand you!  To practice it, use tongue twisters! Repeat them as quickly and often as you can!

- Купи кипу пик. 
- Карл у Клары украл коралл, Клара у Карла украла кларнет. 
- Проворонила ворона вороненка. 
- Милу мама мылом мыла.

We are going to select  the most interesting and important news about politics, economics, social and cultural events in Russia , adapt them and make posts for you, because we know that most of our students are always interested in knowing more about what’s happening in Russia. Each article will go with a little dictionary with the most difficult words and expressions .  Ежегодно в декабре президент Российской Федерации Владимир Владимирович Путин проводит большую пресс-конференцию, на которой он отвечает на самые острые и важные вопросы российских и иностранных журналистов. 23 декабря 2016 года пресс-конференция прошла в двенадцатый (12) раз. На ней присутствовали почти полторы тысячи (1500) журналистов. Пресс-конференция продлилась 3 часа 50 минут. Президент ответил на вопросы 47 журналистов. Самые каверзные вопросы касались Сирии, Украины, Крыма, убийства российского посла в Турции, выборов американского президента, экономической ситуации в России и т.д. Путин не ответил однозначно на вопрос, будет ли он участвовать в выборах в 2018 году. Обещал ответить, когда придёт время. Путин заявил, что Китай является самым крупным партнёром России. Журналист NBC News поинтересовался, когда будет встреча с Трампом. Путин не знает, когда точно произойдет встреча. Он согласен с Трампом, что главным вопросом их встречи должно стать улучшение отношений РФ и США.
