It's been a while since our last news post. There are many things going on in Russia. There is much to say about politics, economics.... But let's talk about less serious things. There is an amazing news and an amazing man 💪we want to tell you about. Enjoy!✨

4. Стартовать = начать (to start (a journey)
5. Полдень = 12 часов дня (midday, noon)
6. Спустя = через (later, after)
7. Сносить = носить так долго, что больше носить нельзя (wear down)
8. Препятствие = то, что мешает идти дальше (obstacle)
9. Разлука - parting, separation
10. Отправляться / отправиться = начать путь (take off)

Hello Dear Russian Learners!✨

Last week we talked about exceptions in plural forms of nouns😱Today let's talk about genders!👫

We all know that Russians refer to a table as "he" and to a lamp as "she"✍🏻. Every thing, every object has its own gender: masculine, faminine or neuter. 📝Usually we determine a gender by an ending of a word: a hard consonant at the end shows that this word is masculine 👨(стол, стул, компьютер, телефон); -а, -я tell us that this is a feminine 👩word (книга, семья); -о, -е at the end mean that the word is neuter (окно, море). But there are some exceptions... As always!😜

One of the most well-known and often used words is КОФЕ (coffee)☕. It ends in -e, so we might think that it's neuter (оно). BUT! It's an exception! It's masculine👨, not neuter. So never say "моё кофе" or "одно кофе"⚠. Instead use "МОЙ КОФЕ", "ОДИН КОФЕ".

Can you remember any other nouns gender exceptions?👂

Last week we already told you about mighty 💪Russian women. Another interesting thing 📌is that most of the Russian girls 👸never go outside without a makeup💄💅. Even to a shop nearby. Even to through away garbage. They also often wear high heels👠: to the university, to work, or just to take a stroll.

What about women in your country? Do they fancy makeup and high heels?

Our students say:

"We really liked the literature club and we are looking forward to the next meeting. I am passionate about literature and I often get involved in similar events. This was the first time I did it in Russian! It was interesting to discuss a story by a contemporary Russian writer. Having to express our views and observations in Russian was a very good practice and challenge." - Agnieszka, UK, 2016
