Slavic alphabet (славянская азбука) was not just a certain amount of separate letters . The name of each letter had a special meaning. So it was an edifying book and a set of rules for all the Slavs. It taught a person to honour the knowledge, ancestors, God, to develop yourself and your mind. While learning this Slavic alphabet people were getting knowledge how to live.

Modern Russian alphabet is much easier. It doesn’t have such a meaning. Just letters.
